Spring cleaning is all about making a clean new start to the year. As you clean and organize, why not make your home a little greener in the process?
Ideas for “Spring Greening”:
- For the actual scrubbing, mopping and dusting, switch over to green cleaning supplies. Natural products are better for the environment and and safer for you to have contact with. Think green cleaning supplies are too expensive? There are many everyday household products that can do the job as well as their brand-name chemical counterparts.
- You already remember to recycle paper, plastic and metal in their obvious forms, but there are other items that are more confusing to figure out. As you spring clean, consider if more recycling containers are needed in other rooms of the home, like the bathroom—home to plenty of paper rolls, plastic shampoo bottles and metal hairspray cans.
- Look around for obsolete or used-up electronic components, like batteries and ink cartridges. Instead of tossing these in the trash, find a recycling location near you. Many cell phone companies will provide postage-paid envelopes for you to return old devices for recycling.
- Conserve water as you clean by turning off the faucet and rinsing out a sink or tub once. If you can save some of this “gray water” to mop, go for it!
Going green in your spring cleaning efforts will help you feel good about what you’re doing—in your home and out!
