With Earth Week beginning, you may be thinking about ways to reduce your carbon footprint inside the home. Read on for some ideas on how to decorate and live earth-friendly.

Some eco-friendly switches won’t cost you any more than making no change. So why not change for the better?

  • Try to reuse and repurpose items before throwing them in the trash. Clothing or dishware that has outlived its useful original purpose can be great art or craft supplies.
  • Use second-hand or used materials for renovations when possible. Diggerslist is a good place to look.
  • Stop using paper plates and paper napkins. Although they are convenient, using disposable dishware is just creating more waste. Use the kind of dishes that you wash and put away, and switch to cloth napkins. Not only will this be eco-friendly, but your meals will feel more special.
  • Shut doors and windows. If you’re running the air conditioner in summer, be sure to close windows and doors to reduce energy waste.
  • Integrate renewable fibers into your decor, like hemp, wool, cotton or silk. Think the same way for furniture, including recycled countertops or bamboo cabinets. Choose renewable or recycled products over anything newly man-made.

This Earth Week, take some time to reflect on your daily routines and ways to make your home and habits more eco-friendly.
