With Earth Week and Easter coinciding, this year is the perfect time to make your Easter celebration more eco-friendly than in years past.
Here are a few tips for an earth-friendly Easter:
- Avoid buying plastic. Skip the shredded plastic grass and plastic eggs. Use natural basket fillers, like shredded paper, yarn or live grass instead. Replace plastic eggs with treat-filled ones made from papier mache.
- Make your own baskets. Since store-bought baskets are destined for the trash, why not make baskets out of items you would otherwise toss out, like soda bottles or tin cans?
- Try to keep candy to a minimum. Part of living green is being healthy. Replace Easter candies with wholesome treats like nuts and fruits or educational toys. If you do use candy, purchase the bulk unwrapped varieties to reduce candy wrapper waste.
- Use natural dyes for Easter eggs. Colors from berries and spices can be as vibrant as any man-made dye, without any harmful health effects.
- Focus on fun. Traditions, like making decorations or hunting for Easter eggs, will produce longer-lasting memories than any toy or candy. And it costs less too!
